Bakeries in South Haven

There is no better way to start a day on vacation than a great cup of coffee and a delicious pastry or breakfast sandwich from one of the bakeries in South Haven.  There are three great choices of independently owned bakeries in the heart of town, each a little different in style and all within a short walk or drive from Our Summer House vacation rental.

Café Julia, 561 Huron Street, South Haven, Open 6:00 am to 6:30 pm

Though technically not a bakery, Julia’s is a café with an abundance of freshly baked treats including baby cakes, cookies, croissants, bagels, muffins, and cinnamon rolls.  They serve a locally roasted Honduran coffee, Uncommon Grounds, as well as a selection of teas.  Early morning fare includes breakfast sandwiches and wraps.  The lunch menu features a varied selection of soups, salads, and sandwiches.  There is both indoor seating and tables available on an outside deck in the warmer months.

Golden Brown Bakery, 421 Phoenix Street, South Haven, Open 6am to 5pm

The Golden Brown is the most traditional of the bakeries in South Haven, offering the full array of baked goods including pastries, doughnuts, breads, cookies, cakes, pies, and more.  This is a business with longevity, having been serving up baked goods since 1938.  The Golden Brown also offers a small breakfast and lunch menu, including 2 eggs and toast for the unbeatable price of $1.99.  The lunch menu is typically two sandwich selections and two soups that change daily.

Bunde’s Good Eats on the North Shore is one of of the South Haven bakeries

Bunde’s describes itself as a European-style small batch, artisan bakery.  Of the South Haven bakeries, this is the only one that operates on a seasonal schedule.  They offer coffee cakes, Danish, cinnamon and sticky buns, muffins, and scones.  “Small batch” means that they bake a limited amount and when they are out, they are out.  Fresh and delicious, but don’t expect them to be waiting for you if you start your day on the later side of morning.  Breakfast menu includes quiche and a couple of made-to-order breakfast sandwiches on croissant.  Bunde’s serves Starbuck’s coffee and Tazo teas and a selection of locally made ice cream treats to grab on your way back from the beach.
